Ok if I'm in the wrong place please move me to where I need to be. This is mainly a discussion. So I used to be a hydroponic guru (13yrs) .Then took 2 years off . Didn't even really visit the forums much . Was just depressed I couldn't grow at the time. So finally I came back .Its almost been a year now . Seems ive lost my touch with hydro in dwc. Calcium and mag lockouts under NEW COB LED's . ITs been very frustrating to say the lease .
I also own a aquarium store and have several large reefs under my care daily . Basically boils down to am I just lazy for wanting something more simple . Thus like a supersoil or amended soil from compost ( I got 4 55 gallon drums full of compost from past 4 years leaves grass clippings and stuff Ive ammeneded the compost pile with. Thus like fruit peels ,egg shells , Kelp grainulars , Rabbit poo from daughters rabbit cage , Alfalfa pellets/ meals from rabbit feed in her bedding . Ive also tossed in some left over bone meal I put down a week ago on the wifes flower beds .I also have manures at my disposele rabbit , chicken ,steer and horse it quanities I could never use up (rabbit eats kale lettuce alfalfa fruits of all sorts mint hay ect)
Alfter playing in calcium alkalinity and magnesium, iodine all day with large SPS aquariums then coming home and playing in the res not counting checking when I wake up and before bed . Things like PH and TDS ect . It just kind of feels like being at work to me .Which I know good pot just doesn't magically appear . IT TAKES WORK . But I have enough of the playing chemist all day at work .
I was at the local feed store today(Was there for alfalfa pellets for our rabbit.) picked up 2x 8lb bags of kelp meal for a 2$ yes I said 2$ because it had a expire date which was last week on the bag . (espoma brand) Also picked up 8x 25lb bags of tomato tone (espoma) for 50c a pop (Week over expired date). I figured if I didn't use them I could always toss them in the ladies flower beds . I'm this sick obsessed guy when it comes to my landscape and lawn . " I'm the guy out there fertilizing his lawn and watering it 2-3x a week . " Anyway whats your thoughts on this. I don't need something super crazy . I'm thinking a tomato tone , kelp and Epsom salts mixed hot and used as super soil . with 25/25% compost from my backyard and mushroom compost with 50% perlite ?
Anything beats playing chemist at this point . The mag and calcium issues are driving me ape shit.Think I'm done with hydroponics after my current run . But damn do the bugs love organics in the summer
